No words II: Electric Boogaloo

I think I'm going to start creating a series of entries filled with educator-type wank, and the brain-comes-to-a-screeching-halt responses that I encounter. This one comes courtesy of a New York Times article on a survey given to teens about history and literature.
Teenagers???? I asked a couple of my colleagues to name the second president of the U.S. and neither could answer me. I gave them a hint and told them that he's on the nickel and they still couldn't name him without reaching into their pockets. ...and neither of them appeared the least bit embarrassed.

Poster, you're doing it wrong.

(actually, our second President was John Adams, not Thomas Jefferson ^^;)

(The part that caused my brain to come to a halt was the "he's on the nickel" line.)

Okay, the poster may be doing it wrong but s/he is mostly right. I know I wouldn't be able to answer, since I pretty much failed History in both middle and high school.

And I wouldn't be embarrassed either, since I honestly don't care for the past; I'm a "lives in the present" kinda person anyway. :/

...if you can remember story arcs, you care about the past.

Well, that's anime/manga. ^^; So, of course I remember things I enjoy. XD; But actual history taught in school and whatnot, I never had any real interest in.

But I know it's your major, so yay for you enjoying it! :3
