Cloud was on a mission. General Sephiroth's aide could be counted on to disappear when the mercury dipped below a certain point, insisting on the inhumanity of the conditions. It wasn't the first time that Cloud had to go to the Soldier portions of the barracks in order to fetch Zack. The General also offered his own incentives for a successful mission, so Cloud obeyed.

Zack's room--really more of an apartment than a room--was off in a corner of the place reserved for the First Class. This was one of the few times that Cloud had been around during daylight hours. He easily found Zack's door. The nameplate that was usually just a dull flash partially blocked by Zack's body was clear enough to spot. Cloud knocked.

A voice muffled by the door and probably by several layers of blankets answered. "I know Seph sent you, Spike, but I'm not going! I'm staying here and not coming out until it's normal again!"

Cloud rolled his eyes. And he was supposed to be the stubborn one. "Stop being a baby, Zack."

"It's cruelty! They're making you do PT when you can see your breath outside!"

"Zack, this isn't cold. Nibelheim in February is cold. This is mild."

"This is a frozen wasteland." A pause. "You know, I should see if I can requisition a Fire. That might help a little."

Cloud rolled his eyes again. He was improving at it, thanks to all the practice he was getting. "Like Se--the General would ever let you."

"A man can dream." Zack's tone turned from spoiled child to something Cloud had gotten to know too well lately. "Hey, you're all used to this, right? You should get inside and help me. They say the best way to raise fallen temperatures is to use body heat." Zack was waggling his eyebrows, Cloud knew it.

Cloud ignored the feeling at the pit of his stomach. It wasn't the time for that at all. "Zack, that's the lamest thing you've ever used on me. Ever."

Back to the spoiled child. "But Aerie does it."

"Your girlfriend's just as freaky as you."
