Title: "New Game Plus"
Fandom: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Characters: Zack and Angeal
Rating: PG
Notes: I'm at the Crisis Core end game. As I see the inevitable looming towards me, the shower muse decides to give me this. I don't mind it. Also, lol, I'm a meme whore~. Oh, yes, spoilers for CC, of course.
You learned from your fuck ups on training runs, so you'd do better next time. )

I've gotten to Nibelheim.

It needs more "Those Chosen by the Planet."

That is all.

We have Crisis Core FMV's in English. Highlights include Genesis's English voice (just emo enough, I think) and the Three-way Fight of Awesomeness, in which Sephiroth is Awesome. There's also the Ending FMV, with the secret ending. I didn't notice that one little thing that Cloud does with the Buster right before the end of the secret bit, when I saw this in Japanese. Now that I have, I'm eat up with the squee.

In other news, I saw Persepolis, finally. I misted up. Had a bit of "I would have translated that like that" with the French. (sigh)

English~!

You can't spell "ignorance"...

Bullet time points time:
  • Seph's laugh is nice. It's a very nice "God damn it, I am eat up with the TMI, aren't I?" laugh.

  • Lazard sounds absolutely nothing like I had imagined him. It fits, but it'll take getting used to.

  • Angeal sounds just about spot-on from what I had in my head. He was a little gruffer, in my mind, but it goes well, and it won't take getting used to.

  • THEY KEPT IT AS "I LOVE YOU." MY LIFE IS COMPLETE.

ETA Feb. 09, 2008, 8:41 am: And the objections have begun! Oh, FFVII fandom, never change.

I know I shouldn't talk, because when I read fic, the voices I hear in my head (Oh, yeah, that sounds good...) will be the voices the characters have had in my head before the release of respective parts of the Compilation. Ah, well, I have unwashed plebe status from even acknowledging the Comp, so what do I know?
chofi: (Default)
We have CC release date. March 25, 2008.

Official English site is also up, though there's only a voice-less trailer. Woe. I wanted to check out the English voices. The quality of the trailer that's on the site, though... Damn. Just, damn.

So, how amused am I that March 25 is the birth date of one of my FFVII-verse OC's?

Someone is experimenting...

New Crisis Core art. I love how everyone is all SERIOUS BUSINESS and Zack's all "Damn right, it's better than yours" with posing best suited for a session at the local glamour shots.

And Cloud looks girlier than Aeris.

Title: I'm Going to Be...
Characters: Cloud, blink-and-you'll-miss-it references to others.
Fandom: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: 04. Insides
Word Count: 528
Notes: I've read a lot of "My thoughts on the Compilation, let me show you them," particularly since the Crisis Core ending surfaced. The thoughts du jour were about something missing, and this is that something. Yeah, I wrote fix-it fic. In a sense.

Title once again taken from "I Would Walk Five Hundred Miles."

Spoiling spoilers that spoil. You have been warned.

We have Crisis Core Ending, with Secret. I peeked. I misted up, and I'm freaking heartless.

The Core of Things

So, T-minus two days until Crisis Core hits Japan. The grumbling about what, exactly, is canon has been going on since Advent Children was announced, so I won't go over that again.

What I really want to post is a question that has been in mind, well, since I started looking at all the grumbling over what canon is and the retcons and the wank.

Is there a correlation between a fan's experiences with authoritarian parents/teachers/role models and how accepting they are of new canon? You know, "Because Ann Said So" vs. "The Complication is all just fan fiction!"

Yeah, this is what I do with a BA in psychology.

ETA, Sept. 12, 2007 9:17am: [livejournal.com profile] ff_press has picked up on this, (And they gave it a nice and erudite title, too! I'm very sorry for anyone that was tempted to click on the title, expecting a detailed analysis, and only getting a somewhat open-ended question.) and I actually have responses. I just wanted to air a question that's been in my head since, well, Advent Children's release. No, fair responders, I didn't expect [livejournal.com profile] ff_press either to pick this up or for any responses. I'll get to them, really.

ETA, Sept. 12, 2007 5:34pm: On reflection, I know I have to clarify myself. This is what I meant: "Is there any relationship, postitive or negative, between a fan's direct experiences with authoritarian people and how receptive they are to new items of canon as specified by the creative team or members appointed by the creative team?" I did not mean anyone considered an authority. I meant, specifically, those defined as highly demanding and poorly responsive. ("Do this now because I said so.")

The reason I asked the question is due to personal experience: I came from an authoritarian household and Roman Catholic tradition. Infallibility and "because I said so" are deeply ingrained into me. So, authorities are right, and I'm wrong. How much of this has colored my acceptance of the Compilation? Or is it something else?

Title: "The Man Who Falls Down at Your Door"
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Prompt: 84. He.
Characters: Cloud, Tifa, random NPC's
Rating: PG-13-ish. Some foul language, if that bothers you.
Notes: Yes, the title was inspired by the song "I Would Walk Five Hundred Miles." I don't know why it pinged, but it did, and it sort of fits? Kind of? Maybe? I've got nothing.

Totally inspired by the recent Crisis Core trailer.
But I would walk five hundred miles... )

Well, got off my ass and made Chofi.net newly pretty. Guess who the layout stars? (points to icon)

Well, I wanted to get my Potterdammerung icons up today, but I'm beat after swimming. So, here're two Crisis Core ones. Credit if taken, etc., etc.:

And his hair changes again. I swear, it's like that icon says, there needs to be a mini-game where you get to style it. But still, y helo thar, Zack with Buster!

Also, mindless squeeing for that pic of Zack and Aeris together. Damn, I love those two.

Compilation Network says:
...a "Stroll through the Slums event", where Zack and Aerith go on a walk, which is supposedly a "top secret hidden event", and the article states that the past between the two of them will finally be made clear.

And you know "Top Secret Hidden Event" = "You must fulfill every damn requirement to the letter, which might mean deviating from your stated mission/suffering some sort of set-back in order to get this event." I cry.

Yes, I realize that I am, indeed, going to hell.

This year, my towel is a shrunken beach towel of a sunset and dolphins. The colors are dark, appropriate for mourning, and you can't forget the dolphins. I think I'll go through Hitchhiker's again today, even if it's out of my queue's order.

No one'd happen to have an mp3 of "So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish," would they? You know your Google-fu is weak when the mp3's you've found are poorer in sound quality than the opening found on You Tube.

Now, for the other end of my subject line.

Today's also the thirtieth anniversary of the release of Star Wars, so I thought I'd do a few things to commemorate. So, links and icons. First, a set of links, mainly Episode One trailer parodies because it was like everyone was going batshit for the movie. Then the new trilogy came out and, well... yeah. And someone needs to rework Crisis Core footage to it. Come on, damn it, you know you want to.

Star Wars Gangsta Rap Something of a radio edit--this is You Tube, after all--but I like it.
The Saga Begins Trailer, Eva version
The Saga Begins Trailer, South Park version

So, now, Squeenix Icons. I was just going to post the Star Wars-y ones, but I might as well show the others while I'm at it.

3 Final Fantasy XII
5 Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
4 Final Fantasy VII
Because we all know that FFXII is Star Wars with chocobos. )

Keyboard fisting ensues.

HOshit, Jump Fiesta Trailer!11!!ichi

I'm just going to squee really, really hard and watch the trailer again.

...yeah, I like "Donovan" better.

Of course, that's only because I'm used to it. As I told another fan, way back in the day: "It's only because we've gotten used to and attached to what we have that we don't want it to change. If Cloud had, say, red hair, if he suddenly went blond we'd freak."

At least the basis of "Fair" is reasonable enough: "Fair" weather, blue skies in comparison to "Cloud" and bad weather (I really am hoping they don't know the phrase "fair weather friend". Zack isn't one.). I don't know if any names derived from Hebrew, as Zack/Zachery/Zachary/Zackary/Zackery is (meaning: "renowned by God", "God remembers" God = Shinra? Eh?), would have an equivalent (if anyone knows, please enlighten me), like the trick they pulled off for Angeal Hewley: derived from "hyle", "matter" in Greek ("Angeal", being a spin on "angel", also from Greek.).

And just so that it all doesn't descend into pseudo-intellectual pratter: Damn, Angeal. Yeah, the man does have a Buster Sword in his pants. ([livejournal.com profile] soldiersmut icons in 3... 2... )

Information taken from AdventChildren.net.

ETA: I think [livejournal.com profile] kemis has the right idea. Pun battles for great Fair-ness justice!

...so, yeah, is anyone else getting Legendary Dark Knight Sparda vibes from Lazard? Just me?

Also, so Angeal does actually have facial hair. Holy crap, it's a miracle. They've also rendered him a little younger, I see. ...this means I have to work on that freaking manscaping bunny, doesn't it? Damn it, I can refuse the bunny. I can.

...and Zack is an Uchiha.

O to the M to the G.

From Advent Children.net's translation of FF7AC Reunion's report of the Crisis Core trailer at the Tokyo Game Show:

[Scene with Zack running, holding a phone in one hand and his sword in the other, confronting Bahamut.]

Zack: "Aerith? I'll have to get back to you later. I've got a guest."

[Zack puts the phone into his pocket and readies his sword to face Bahamut.]

Zack: "I'll try to be a polite host."

It's official. Zack is made of win and awesome.
