November first, and it's NaNo time. I'm not going to do it this year, but I'll attempt an unofficial NaBloPoMo (I wanted it to be official, but they ask for your real full name on the site and I Do Not Play That.)

But in order to encourage participants (and to get the damn thing out of my head) I offer a filk.

1667 Words
(to the tune of "1000 Words/1000 no Kotoba" from Final Fantasy X-2)

I know that you're typing things,
Or using pen and paper if need be.
Writing is my hobby.
But word count goals will bully me,
And don't come easily.

I acted so thwarted then,
Didn't think to try and do my best
It seems challenging.
I plan my outlines and plot trees
Much more easily.

"All kinds have reached the goal."
I could hear that you whispered as you wrote your outline.
Was that my sign,
To regiment, as I thought of the deadline.
Scheduling might have been the answer,
What if I'd set aside time to write every day?
But now I'm not afraid to post my stats and say:

A thousand six
Hundred sixty-seven
In twenty four
Over thirty equals more than the fifty K
to win NaNoWriMo.
A thousand six
Hundred sixty-seven
Words to you goal
For the month of November I'll write away and
Edit in December.

The month isn't over yet
Though not making goal will make me fret
But I still make my way.
The veterans say it's okay.
And the PM's say:

"I'll help with the beta reading."
Pointing out my mistakes, to help hone and refine.
Was that my sign,
To spellcheck work, as I thought of the deadline?
Caffiene might have been the answer.
What if I have some coffee and worked late into the night?
But now I wrote enough to know I'm in the fight.

A thousand six
hundred sixty-seven
in twenty-four
Even though I am stuck
I'll reach my daily goals, and win NaNoWriMo
A thousand six
Hundred sixty-seven
Words to your goal
For the next thirty days I will write away and
Edit in December.

A thousand six
Hundred sixty-seven
in twenty four
Dividing the daunting number of words
to win NaNoWriMo.
It's a thousand six
Hundred sixty-seven
Words to your goal
Making more than fifty K words in thirty days.
Edit in December!
