...I'm a heretic.

...yeah, I like "Donovan" better.

Of course, that's only because I'm used to it. As I told another fan, way back in the day: "It's only because we've gotten used to and attached to what we have that we don't want it to change. If Cloud had, say, red hair, if he suddenly went blond we'd freak."

At least the basis of "Fair" is reasonable enough: "Fair" weather, blue skies in comparison to "Cloud" and bad weather (I really am hoping they don't know the phrase "fair weather friend". Zack isn't one.). I don't know if any names derived from Hebrew, as Zack/Zachery/Zachary/Zackary/Zackery is (meaning: "renowned by God", "God remembers" God = Shinra? Eh?), would have an equivalent (if anyone knows, please enlighten me), like the trick they pulled off for Angeal Hewley: derived from "hyle", "matter" in Greek ("Angeal", being a spin on "angel", also from Greek.).

And just so that it all doesn't descend into pseudo-intellectual pratter: Damn, Angeal. Yeah, the man does have a Buster Sword in his pants. ([livejournal.com profile] soldiersmut icons in 3... 2... )

ETA: I think [livejournal.com profile] kemis has the right idea. Pun battles for great Fair-ness justice!

...and now I'm wondering if I have to do the Find-Replace on all my fics, to make them lean towards canon.

I think I managed to avoid giving him a last name in most of my fics, but even if I didn't I won't be doing that, and I don't think you need to either.

...taking a quick look at my backlog, I think I refer to Zack as "Donovan" only about three or four times. I suppose what I have to do is just reprogram my schema for Ack-ack.

Zack Fair. Zack Fair. Zackary Fair.
