Meme-ry, and Plot Hesters

So, the site for The Golden Compass is up, and yeah, I did the dæmon meme.

So. Albus. The poor guy would probably have me lay on the Harry Potter jokes so often...

Yeah, and during the Forests bit of Planet Earth, did anyone else squee out "Lyra!" when they showed the pine marten? Just me? Oh.

As for the movie itself, I'm still indifferent on Lyra and Lee. Iorek looks sufficiently badass. Still wanky over the choice for Mrs. Coulter, since I always pictured her with black hair. Ah, well, Roxas Will comments on how much she resembles/is like Lyra, so she has to be a blonde, no? Lord Asreal... er, he's always looked something like Luxord to me. Don't ask, I don't know, either. Serafina is pretty much how I imagined her.

Alas, this is being released by New Line, so no chance of Kingdom Hearts what-the-fuckery. I wanted Kingdom Hearts what-the-fuckery. Such things spawned the following:

  • The Keyblades are made of Dust, and someone from the Torre dei Angeli had to have managed to book once they knew the Subtle Knife worked. He wanders around with the knowledge for a bit, it gets transmitted to Ansem...

Someone needs to do it, and since I don't have enough License Points for metaphysics, I leave it to you, fair readers: Keyblades vs. the Subtle Knife. I don't know how it'd work out, but I want to see it.

  • Along this same angle, it was the experiments at Torre dei Angeli that made the first Heartless. Discuss.

  • Lyra and Will made themselves Heartless when they went into the world of the dead. The dæmons aren't exactly the Heart, but they aren't exactly the soul, either. But for this bunny hare (See the "Hester" thing, now?) to work, there has to be some heart in there. So, where are the Nobodies? Or, if you do want to go the "not quite heart, not quite soul" way, what kind of Nobody-type would there be? Some sort of inverted dæmon? Would they be searching for their Others?

  • So, world of the dead. Lyra and Will sort of drained it. Hades wouldn't be liking that. So, which one of his contracted thugs does he send to get the Keybearer bearer of the Subtle Knife? Please note that The Subtle Knife came out in 1997, and something else came out at around the same time. Yeah, it's a spin on the "I get sucked into X or X characters get sucked into here" plot, but damn it, the Subtle Knife >> a Playstation on the fritz.

  • Also, Nomura-styled renderings of the main cast of His Dark Materials would be such love.
