So, one of the co-creators of D&D has passed away, and reading all the commentary, I'm kind of upset that I never managed getting into it. I mean, it's like a nerd rite of passage. Sort of how anime fans of my age were required to see Akira. (Never did. Heh, probably won't see the new DiCaprio version, either.)
So... any suggestions on how I can get a n00b campaign started? Suggestions on any other Pen and Paper games I should look into? Any locals on the FList feel like diving in? (Yohtan, Kuma, Penchy; I'm looking at you...)

I have, actually, been thinking of starting a D&D campaign of some sort, but it hasn't really gotten off the ground for 5 reasons:
1. I am lazy.
2. I am very lazy.
3. I am limitlessly lazy.
4. I am revolutionarily, cosmically lazy.
5. I am... well, you get the point.
The problem I've found with starting a game is finding a DM. Lots of people are more than happy to play but nobody wants to have to do the extra work of being a DM(they have premade campaigns but honestly most of those are pretty boring).
If you CAN find somebody to DM(haha, maybe I'd do it if I can be inspired to get off my lazy ass), then usually things just fall into place by themselves in my experience(again, it's easy to just get people to play).
As far as other P&P games to try... I do like Shadowrun but the rules can get absurdly complicated. Also, I've heard good things about the White Wolf games but I've never played any of them(well, not really... I did play Mage... once).
